I have a goal of sending out two newsletters a month – the first and third weeks to be more precise and to break it down further, sent out by the evening of the Monday of the week in question. So this edition is two days late. Did you notice?
I now have some choices I can make. Admit that I am not able to produce two newsletters a month and give up. Accept that I’m still learning and finding a rhythm to a new lifestyle and put actions in place to help me achieve my goal. Modify my goal to something less demanding. What sort of choices do you make if you find achieving your goal is more difficult than anticipated?
The first choice of giving up is not an option or in my nature. Being a health coach is something that I finally feel is something I want to be when I grow up.
Modifying my goal to something less demanding is another choice. That seems like a good option as I may inherently be lazy. But how demanding is writing a 300-400 word newsletter twice a month? Coming up with the idea is the hardest part, once that is done, keeping it to under 400 words becomes difficult (though I do include the sign off words in my counting……what did I say about being lazy!). Plus, when is not meeting your target an excuse for not trying again? Especially if you know you can achieve the goal that has been set.
So that leaves me with accepting I’m still learning to live with my new lifestyle and I need to put actions and plans in place to achieve each of my individual goals. There are tools that I can use to remind me - a calendar reminder or a mentor/coach or both. Technology can help me, but also ensuring the goals I have are aligned to who I am and want to be, will make it easier to consistently achieve the goals I set. Sometimes it’s about setting the right goals, and then putting in place the right tools and support to make them happen.
