Congratulations to Rosalind Arnott for winning my competition for a 3 night wellness retreat stay.
We have had a busy first full summer season with our boutique accommodation. It has been a learning experience and managing our booking calendar next summer will be important to make sure we have a better mix of days to take a breath in between guests. It has been great meeting people from around the world and being able to share our little slice of New Zealand.
With the drop off in guests, having less to do is a possible recipe for not so great afternoon snack choices! I saw a news feed the other day about avocado seeds. Being really high in soluble fibre, they are great to reduce the feeling of being hungry along with some other benefits. But when I started looking for more info, there were words of warning, that they have a toxic compound as well. Persin is a fungicidal toxin that is harmful in large doses especially to birds, small animals and horses and is found in the seed as well as the skin and leaves of the avocado plant.
But if you keep on researching, the number of recorded adverse effects in people have been small, relatively mild and generally within the population of those who are already allergy sensitive.
After having added avocado seeds to my late morning smoothie for the last 5 days or so, I have had no adverse effects and feel quite satisfied through the afternoon. So a new addition to my smoothie recipe.
But the best way when trying any new "super food" is try it in small amounts - because we don't all react the same way to food. Most of us react to our food and environment in similar ways but not all of us do, so be aware of your bio-individuality and how foods and your environment act on your health.
If you missed out on my competition and want to try my Body Renew Retreat stay, now is a good time to book, as the next 5 bookings will get a 50% discount saving $1125 per couple. Contact me directly to get this rate and to check availability.
