The last year has seen change blowing through my life. It started when Simone and I made an offer on an amazing property in Queenstown. We were able to control the strength of the wind and how long it was going to blow, as we negotiated a one year settlement. This allowed us to manage the change we wanted to make more effectively.
Life teaches us that the only constant is change. We make changes all the time, some big and some small. The big changes may be frightening because they mean that life will never be exactly the same. But they can also be exciting and represent a new adventure. What changes are you going through or think you might need to go through?
Managing our big change has involved breaking it down into small pieces, then lots of planning and subsequently doing. The biggest pieces to manage have been selling two properties and moving my mother in-law into full-time care. With those larger pieces now complete – implementing the detail of preparing the Queenstown property and arranging the physical move for ourselves and two Burmese cats continue. Moving over 1500km from where you live, does have its challenges and being put on hold is certainly one of them, as you try to change contact details!
Simone and I are managing this big change by having a clear vision of the outcome we want despite the bumps along the way, by supporting each other and accepting the support of friends and family. Achieving the goal of moving to Queenstown to live and start our own business, The Alpine Retreat, involved doing the things we needed to do in an effective and logical way. We have also been more effective by acknowledging that we each have different skills and strengths to contribute. What support and tools do you have to make the changes you may need to make?
With the end goal in sight I can start to focus on what this change will enable me to do – work with people to improve their health through effectively managing their stress levels, increasing their energy and achieving their health goals. My clients need to be willing to make changes to reach their goals. Are you willing to make changes? All of us are capable of change. While most of the changes will be small or incremental, some may seem huge. By breaking down the goal into achievable, small step changes and having access to the right information and support – windmills can be built to prosper from the winds of change.
